Many Junior Football Clubs are self funding and the funding is primarily through players parents and sponsorship. In 2005-06 and 2006-07, Longwell Green Sports were sponsored by CU Phosco Lighting for their team (D.O.B. 95-96) and also their very successful six a side tournament.
The idea is to provide young sports persons with the best available kit and equipment. This then can provide the youngsters the best opportunity in their individual and personal development, thus creating great confidence and well being for the Team and individuals.
Club History:
Founded in June 1966 following the great upsurge of interest in football following England’s World Cup success of Bobby Moore and the England Team, Longwell Green Sports FC were originally founded from the workforce of the areas main employer, Longwell Green Coachworks. The first pitch was laid out on the same site of today’s pitch and was, in 1966, open farmland.
The club have always had an ambition to play at the highest level and this was rewarded in 2003 when Matt Hale rejoined the club he first played for as a 15 year old before becoming a professional footballer with Bristol City, he has also played for Yeovil and Weymouth.
Longwell Green have always had a commitment to developing young players and gained a tremendous spirit amongst its teams and club members, several players who had many opportunities to play at a high level with other clubs have stayed loyal to the club. In 2003 the juniors and seniors amalgamated and formed Longwell Green Sports (replacing the FC) and also incorporating netball teams and girls football.
The 95-96 (Date of Birth year) Team have enjoyed limited success, by Winning the 2005 Mangotsfield FC Junior Tournament and equaling that feat in 2006 at the Deerswood FC Tournament. The Team was sponsored by CU Phosco Lighting for 2 seasons.
The Team currently play in the Hanham Minor League in the Bristol area.
